Moldovan expert: Transdnestr is a depressive appendage that neither Moldova, nor EU or NATO need
Reintegration of Moldova that can be conducted in the near future does not suit Moldova's national interests and poses a threat to its national security as well as norms of the modern Euro-Atlantic civilization and standards of the European Union, said the leader of the Moldovan Pro Europa Association Boris Asarov, while speaking at a news conference on May 14, a REGNUM correspondent informs.
According to Asarov, the aggressive information campaign among Transdnestr citizens provoked a zombie effect by them. The level of political culture in the Republic of Moldova is yet not that high, and still we have another depressive appendage in the face of Transdnestr. That will be direct regress of democracy. Besides, neither the European Union nor NATO do need this, as they will face a depressive region, Asarov noted. He also expressed concern that the appendage can exert cardinal influence upon the political situation in the Republic of Moldova.
The leader of Pro Europa spoke for democratization of Transdnestr via establishing a UN High Commissioner Mission for Transdnestr affairs to found basic democratic institutions and conditions for free elections. Besides, he believes, it is necessary to change the format of the peacekeeping mission that can be carried out under the aegis of the NATO-Russia Council with equal proportional representation.
