There are good premises to solve the Transdnestr conflict with determining the status of Transdnestr within a united and sovereign Moldova at present moment. As the press office of the Moldovan president informs, this was the announcement made by the Chair of the Russian Federation Council Sergey Mironov during his meeting with the Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin on May 19, a REGNUM correspondent informs.

Mironov reiterated Russian leadership’s position on the Transdnestr issue and spoke for finding a viable solution to the conflict on the basis of talks in the 5+2 format. In his turn, Vladimir Voronin highly appreciated Russia’s position on the Transdnestr issue based on supporting Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Moldovan president noted consistency and constructiveness that characterize attitude of the Russian Federation Council towards the development in the Republic of Moldova. Vladimir Voronin expressed confidence that Sergey Mironov’s visit will contribute to improving and extending the cooperation in all spheres.

As the both speakers believe, there is an effective political dialog and dynamically developing political relations between Russia and Moldova, especially within last two years. At the same time, the parties noted great unused potential in the trade and economy sphere, particularly, at the regional level. To stir up the trade and economic exchange between Russia and Moldova, Sergey Mironov suggested that a long-term action plan for the economic cooperation between the countries up to 2020 is elaborated.
