Saakashivili: Georgia denounces treaty on Russian peacekeeping mission in Abkhazia
Georgia denounces the treaty on Russian peacekeeping mission in Abkhazia and declares Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories. The Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili said this at a many-thousand rally in support of the Georgian statehood in front of a parliament on August,12, a Regnum correspondent reports.
“Georgia is leaving the CIS. We finally say farewell to the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union will never return here. We urge Ukraine and other CIS member-states to drop out of this union, which is ruled by Russia, Russia is ruling asking nobody. We made a decision, along with denunciation of the Russian peacekeeping mission in Abkhazia, I said that to the US president and other world leaders the day before, to declare the Russian army an occupational army and declare Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories,” Mikhail Saakashvili said. “Until the last occupant leaves the Georgian territory, none of the Georgians will stay calm,” the Georgian president underscored.
Participants of the rally met the statement of Mikhail Saakashvili with ovation scanning “Sakartvelo” (Georgia) and “Tavisupleba” (liberty).
