Moldavian President waited for Saakashvili to win to settle Transdnestr issue the way he wanted
Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin knew in advance about the forthcoming Georgian attack on South Ossetia. A competent source who preferred to stay anonymous shared this information with REGNUM on August 13.
According to the source, Voronin hoped that Saakashvili would be provided with U.S. real support and the aggression against South Ossetia will end to Georgia’s benefit. Georgia's success in this war could help the Moldavian president to resolve the issue with Trandsnestr on his own scenario. That's why Chisinau recently stepped up its demands to Tiraspol. That is why Voronin refused to leave the GUAM organization. It explains the unintelligible position of the Moldavian MFA and Voronin's silence about the war in South Ossetia. Voronin simply was waiting, the interlocutor told REGNUM.
