Over 1,800 explosive devices have been disposed of by Russian EMERCOM (Ministry of Emergency Situations) specialists in South Ossetia, REGNUM correspondent reports First Deputy head of the agency Ruslan Tsalikov to inform Aug 29. According to Tsalikov, demining of the republic's territory is being continued.
First of all, it is performed in the regions to which refugees are returning. Tsalikov admits that the work will take a long time, for a quantity of bombs and other explosive devices used during the Georgian attack was tremendous. He said it was hard to predict how long it would take.
The official said that recently, demining engineers performed a unique operation of utilization of three aerial bombs, 500 kilograms each. The unexploded missiles were found in the town of Java. The operation was unique due to the hard-to-reach places where the shells were found. One of them had a fuse actuated, but the missile miraculously did not explode, Tsalikov accounted.
