Georgia calls off diplomats from Moscow
Government of Georgia decided on Aug 29 to sever diplomatic relations with Russia. Georgian diplomats will be called off from Moscow tomorrow, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affair of Georgia Grigol Vashadze informed journalists. In his words, the executive power thus implements act of the Georgian parliament ''On Occupation of Territory of Georgia by Russia,'' one of the articles of which suggested rupturing diplomatic relations with Russia.
''We are preserving only the Consulate, for, according to the Vienna Convention, severing diplomatic relations does not imply automatic severing consulate relations,'' the Georgian diplomat said. Vashadze detailed that the countries will be represented by Consul, Vice Consul, and technical personnel.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Andrey Nesterenko pointed out at a press conference in Moscow on Aug 29: ''If it happens, it would not be the choice of Russia, and the responsibility will have to be assumed by the Georgian side.''
