40% of Ukrainians support Ukraine's neutrality in South Caucasus crisis: Poll
87% of Ukrainians were interested in August 2008 events in Georgia, REGNUM correspondent in Kiev cites director of the Institute for Strategic Studies Yury Ruban to announce Sep 1 at a press conference.
According to the expert, 41.9% of Ukrainians suppose that their country would be better off if it did not support any of the sides in the conflict. 20.2% think that Georgia has to be supported by exclusively diplomatic means. 18.3% are convinced that diplomatic support of Russia is necessary. 4% side defense and technical support of Georgia, 2% — of Russia in these fields.
''The main source of information about the events were Ukrainian (47.9%) and Russian (15.3%) TV channels. 11% of Ukrainian citizens were informed through communication with relatives, neighbors, and acquaintances. 6.8% kept track of the events by listening to radio, 5% through the Internet, and 4.1% by reading printed media,'' Ruban informed.
The sociological survey was performed by the Institute for Strategic Studies Aug 21-26, 2008. 2011 respondents older than 18 years from all regions of Ukraine participated in it.
