US Vice President arrives to Azerbaijan
Sep 3, US Vice President Dick Cheney starts his visit to Azerbaijan, REGNUM correspondent reports. Cheney is to discuss the situation ''around Georgia,'' cooperation between the USA and Azerbaijan in the struggle against terrorism, issues of energy and Azerbaijan's energy supplies to world markets, Nagorno Karabakh problem settlement, and the issues of democracy and supremacy of law in the light of the coming presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
Cheney is going to meet with Azerbaijani President and other members of administration, during which he will discuss the stated issues, according to a source in Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry. However, local analysts assert that the main purpose of the US Vice President trip to Baku is support of Azerbaijan in the context of the aggravated in August 2008 situation in the region.
After Baku, Cheney is to visit Georgia, Ukraine, and Italy.
