Kazakhstan ready to mediate Caucasus conflict settlement
If necessary, Kazakhstan is ready to participate in the negotiation process around the situation in South Ossetia. Kazakhstan Today quotes Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev to make the statement at a press conference following meeting with President of Germany Horst Kohler.
''I am confident that the problem is not going to be solved in negotiations between Russia and Georgia, moreover, by Abkhazia and Ossetia, or only Europe and Russia. Multilateral organizations have to be involved probably, the European Union, the USA, Russia, Georgia,'' Nazarbayev said. He announced: ''If participation of Kazakhstan as a suitable state for all the negotiating sides is necessary in this case, we are ready to participate.''
Nazarbayev also stated that Kazakhstan does not support censure of Russia's action in the Caucasus. ''We understand measures that Russia took to stop the bloodshed in the region,'' he said.
