Saakashvili caught himself in a mousetrap – surge of opposition is ripening in Georgia
The president of Georgia got in a mousetrap, which was prepared for Georgia, and about which he was warned by the USA, Europe and Georgian society, declared David Gamkrelidze, the leader of the New Right opposition party while speaking at a press conference. According to him, Saakashvili brought Georgia to a very difficult situation by making individually an irresponsible decision to bomb and storm Tskhinvali. We lost even those territories which had been under our control, stressed the member of the opposition.
In this context, David Gamkrelidze called for resignation of President of Georgia Michael Saakashvili and new presidential and parliamentary elections in the country. According to him, from today onward the New Right party will begin the consultations with other opposition parties in order to make a consolidated plan of actions.
As REGNUM reported earlier, the day before Shalva Natelashvili, the leader of the Georgian Labor Party also called for immediate resignation of the government and the president of Georgia. According to him, in the near months the authorities have to understand by their own, that their resignation will allow Georgia to overcome present crisis and at once save the country. As Natelashvili underscored, Georgia needs new leaders which must be pro-Georgian, but not pro-Russian or pro-American.
