Sergey Bagapsh: There will be no mass return of Georgian refugees to Abkhazia
“There will be no mass return of Georgian refugees to Abkhazia. Abkhazia is the only country in the world where up to 55,000 Georgian refugees returned after the end of the war.” Abkhazian President Sergey Bagapsh said this at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Sukhum.
“We have been implementing all agreements clearly, including the quadripartite agreement on the return of refugees. Abkhazia started to return Georgian refugees to Gali district unilaterally in 1999,” Bagapsh recalled.
He also mentioned that there are a lot of Georgians living in Abkhazia, who do want to live in the republic. “We are not building a mono-ethnic state and we are ready to exist and cooperate with everyone, who wants to live in peace and harmony here with us,” Bagapsh said.
