The work of European observers in South Ossetian security zone can be assessed as negative only. This was stated by plenipotentiary of South Ossetia in Russia, Dmitry Medoyev, during a Moscow — Paris teleconference held on November 13, a REGNUM correspondent reports.

According to Medoyev, the Medvedev-Sarkozy plan, that is the only document on conflict settlement having currently, is contradicting by its character. The representative of South Ossetia assesses the work of European observers negatively only. “How can 200 people, who need to conduct monitoring of strategically important area, where the strike on Tskhinval was made from, observe the borderline of a 140-km length? It is impossible,” Medoyev asserts.

“After Russian forces withdrew from the security zone, crimes began to take place there. Since November 8, 21 people, including women and children, were kidnapped, at that two of them were ransomed. Where the observers were at that time?” Medoyev asks.

Talking about guarantees of the EU on keeping peace in the region, the representative of South Ossetia declared: “Why the European observers, whose headquarters were situated in Tskhinval, had left the town two hours before the Georgian assault? Where had been you guarantees at that time? The only peace guarantor in Caucasus is Russia. It does not declare, but just provides security in the region”.
