The Baltic Sea shore in Kaliningrad Region attacked by jellyfish
A large number of pink and white jellyfish can be seen at the beaches of the Baltic Sea in Kaliningrad Region. The jellyfish practically stick round bodies of bathers, witnesses say. Especially large numbers of jellyfish can be seen at the shore of Zelenogradsk resort and at the reserved Kursh Spit.
As experts from the bioecological faculty of the Russian State Kant University told IA REGNUM, common jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) arrived to the Baltic Sea shore does not cause burning pain or any allergic reaction. Aurelia dwells in tropic and moderately warm seas, so its presence in the cold waters of the Baltic Sea after a recent storm indicates that warm weather would settle in the region in the near future, said the experts from the university.
It is a rare occasion when common jellyfish appears in the Baltic Sea. The biologists say, the jellyfish appeared in the region because of strong winds from the west.
