Khabarovsk plumbers experiment on polluted water

Read it in Russian

On November 30, in Khabarovsk, workers of the City Water Service began to carry out experiments on water, polluted by benzene, a REGNUM correspondent was informed in Khabarovsk Interdistrict Environmental Prosecution.

Specialists of the City Water Service conduct experiments on the city water supply facilities, trying to evaluate, how dangerous the water polluted by benzene is. They specially pollute experimental water with benzene, and then pass it through the filter, filled with absorbent (activated charcoal – REGNUM), to evaluate, how clear the water will be after filtering. If after the maximal pollution and filtering it has not more than 10 maximum concentration limits, then the experiment is successful, and water can be filtered to prevent emergency situation in Khabarovsk.

The prosecution representatives noted that it is impossible to demand indemnity from China for the pollution of the Amur River, because there are no account methods and special ecological agreements with China. Also, they informed the REGNUM correspondent that “China has no treatment works on the Songhua River.”
