Protest action against joining NATO started in Kiev (Ukraine)

Read it in Russian

Peaceful protest action “No NATO in Ukraine” started on December 1, at the Independence Square in Kiev. Organizers of the action are activists of the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine (PSPU). They plan that several thousands people will participate in the meeting, but, according to the protesters, many of those, who wished to participate, were blocked by the road police.

As a REGNUM correspondent was informed by Deputy Head of PSPU Vladimir Marchenko, seven buses form only Dnepropetrovsk region have been blocked near Kiev. More than 100 minivans were stopped in Kremenchug, so the organizers think that the number of participants at the Independent Square must soon increase.

In course of action, several events are planned. Among them, the speech of PSPU leader Natalya Vitrenko, lighting of candles in the memory of Yugoslavians killed during the NATO operation, a news conference of the leaders of the future coalition “People’s opposition” dedicated to the action “No NATO in Ukraine”. Any information about the exact place and time of actions is concealed to prevent any counteraction from the police. The press will be informed later. As from-ua.com informs, from 03:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. (local time) of December 1, the action will be broadcasted by satellite Sirius 2.
