A monument to dog astronaut to be erected in Izhevsk (Russia)
A monument to a dog astronaut called Zvezdochka (Starlet) will be erected in Izhevsk (Udmurtia, Russia) in March, 2006, REGNUM was told in Udmurtia’s Culture Ministry.
According to experts, the monument will be created by Izhevsk sculptor Pavel Medvedev. The monument will be of 50 cm height and made of metal, with the story of the dog astronaut engraved on it. The text will be reprinted on the monument using the Braille’s method for use by the blind.
Zvezdochka was the last dog astronaut that returned to Earth safely. After its landing on March 25, 1961, the final decision of a human flight to space was made.
