Uzbek historian thinks that Columbus was not the first to discover America

Director of the Oriental Studies Institute at the Uzbekistani Academy of Sciences Bakhrom Abdukhamitov states that prominent historian Abu Raihan Beruni, who lived a thousand years ago, predicted that a continent and islands are located to the south of the Atlantic Ocean exists. Abdukhamitov commented his position to a REGNUM correspondent.

The historian says that Beruni lived in 973-1048, and is author of many basic works in natural sciences, including mathematics, geology and others, which significantly contributed to the medieval science.

In his works “India” (1030) and “Canon of Masud” (1036), speaking about the structure of the world, Beruni stated that the Atlantic Ocean is a natural barrier between the known world and other inhabited continents and islands that can exist in the West and in the East.

Abdukhamitov thinks, that here Beruni predicted discovery of America a thousand years ago.
