Saakashvili expressed gratitude to Aliyev for Azerbaijani gas supplies to Georgia
On January 22, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili called Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and expressed his gratitude for assistance rendered by Azerbaijan in connection with the accidents on gas pipelines and electric power lines from Russia to Georgia, says a statement by the Azerbaijani president’s press office quoted by REGNUM correspondent.
Saakashvili noted that on the instruction of the Azerbaijani president gas and energy supplies to Georgia were started immediately. Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that friendly and sister nations will support each other in future.
During the telephone talk, they exchanged opinions in political, economic fields in bilateral relations, including further prospects of cooperation in energy sector and other issues.
Earlier, the Russian Gazprom Company decided to increase natural gas supplies to Azerbaijan for further transit to Georgia because of an accident on Mozdok-Tbilisi gas pipeline. Part of the gas that is supplied to Azerbaijan will be submitted to Georgia via the pipeline that connects it with Azerbaijan.
