Armenian energy system works in intensive regime
ArmRosGazprom, exclusive gas supplier in Armenia, still has not introduced any limits on gas supply to the customers, except Hrazdan thermoelectric power station, but if in the near future the Armenian gas supplies are not restored, the company will limit the gas supply first to gas stations, and later to residents. As a REGNUM correspondent has been informed by spokesperson for the company Shushan Sardaryan, the limitations will not affect life supporting facilities.
Spokeswoman for the energy ministry of Armenia Lusine Arutyunyan in an interview to a REGNUM correspondent confirmed that because gas supply cessation caused the stopping of energy generation at Hrazdan thermoelectric power station owned by RAO UES of Russia. The second largest plant, Yerevan power plant continues functioning, but in the energy-saving regime. According to the spokesperson, currently Armenian energy system works in intensive regime. Thermoelectric power stations provide 25% of the total produced energy, so after the blasts in the pipeline in North Ossetia, Armenia ceased to supply energy in adjacent Georgia. Lusine Arutyunyan found it difficult to answer, what consequences will have further delay of repair works at the gas pipeline. It will surely increase the amount of energy usage by the residents, but exact amount will depend on the weather conditions. So the system of radial energy disconnection can be introduced only after it is made clear how the energy usage raised.
Nearly all municipal transport and private fixed-run taxis in Armenia use liquefied gas as fuel. And if ArmRosGazprom stops supplying gas stations with gas, it can cause crisis in transportation system. Currently, ArmRosGazprom continues pumping out gas from the Abovyan gas storage that contains 80 million cubic meters of gas. In present days, Armenia uses 5.3 million cubic meters of gas daily. Earlier, Armenia increased the amount of energy supply from Iran.
