Estonian Olympic winners to have 1 million kroons
Estonian Olympic team will be honored in Tallin, Tartu and native town of the Olympic gold winners Otepaa on February 27, a REGNUM correspondent is told in the Estonian Olympic Committee. The committee will give for each gold medal a million krooni, and their coaches will receive half a million krooni each. The government intends not only pay money to the winners, but to grant them land.
Debates have risen even before the end of the Olympics in Torino, whether the state should give the winners 600,000 euro or confine to the prize of 600,000 krooni envisaged by the government earlier.
Olympic winners Kristina Smigun and Andrus Veerpalu were granted honorary award the White Star of first grade in honor of 88th anniversary of the Estonian Republic celebrated on February 24. Their coaches, Anatoly Smigun and Mati Alaver were awarded with the White Star of the third grade.
