State of emergency declared in Odessa region because of bird flu (Ukraine)
On February 28, state of emergency was declared in Odessa Region, because bird flu was registered at Odessa Zoo, as acting governor of Odessa region Boris Zvyagintsev stated, informs a REGNUM correspondent.
As REGNUM already informed, on February 27 extraordinary session of local administration put Odessa Zoo in quarantine, because local veterinarians discovered bird flu strain H5. The local administration decided to grant 150 thousand grivnas to transfer of birds to new enclosures. Specialists recommend spending additional 700 thousand grivnas on prevention of bird flu spreading. All Zoo facilities, including veterinarian hospital and specialized shop are quarantined.
The local administration also temporarily closed Starokonny market.
