Bird flu can lead to millions losses (Lithuania)
According to preliminary information, bird flu in Lithuania can cause losses worth 100 mln lits, as a REGNUM correspondent has been informed in press office of the Lithuanian agriculture ministry. The ministry presumes, that losses to those, who raise poultry will be fully compensated. Around 175 thousand Lithuanians raise more than 9 mln birds, so their complete extermination will cost 98.9 mln lits.
Secretary of Lithuanian Finance ministry Edmundas Zvirblis pointed in necessity if bird flu prevention and availability of information about it, because the people must know how to avoid losses.
Deputy Health Minister Rimantas Sadzius notes that bird flu represents danger for people, so it is especially necessary to prevent human infections of bird flu.
According to the initiative of Lithuanian agricultural minister Kazimira Prunskienė, on March 8, a session was conducted, where sides decided to prepare a joint plan of all corresponding agencies’ activity. The plan will be transferred to the government for approval.
