Estonian observers: results of Byelorussian presidential elections are logical
Commenting to a REGNUM correspondent the results of the Byelorussian presidential elections, international observer from Estonia, MP, member of Centrist Party Vladimir Velman stated that the outcome is logical. I presumed it, and it happened. Byelorussians are afraid of radical changes. They want stability, and they voted for it, he said and added that despite doubts in high voters turnout, he stressed that did not doubt objectiveness of the results.
According to Velman, many of his compatriots, who arrived in Byelorussia as observers, had their own position regarding the situation in the country, but changed it after the visit. He said that they could meet and speak with everybody they wanted to without any obstacles. Velman said that reaction of local officials was generally friendly, and positively evaluated the fact, that all 16 observers from Estonia, that is widely acknowledged as an unfriendly country to the current regime in Byelorussia, received Byelorussian visas. He denied the information of one of Estonian newspapers, that visas have been denied to three Estonian observers.
Velman said, that along with his colleagues, he visited Khatin memorial complex. We all knew that in 1943 Nazi burnt the village with all 149 residents, including children. But when he saw the memorial, he understood that Byelorussians have their own history, including history of WW2.
Commenting on the opposition meeting of March 19 in Oktyabrskaya Square, Velman said that it counted five thousand active participants, while other were simple spectators.
Velman concluded, that final impression of his visit to Byelorussia is positive.
