Mikhail Demurin: Events in Minsk demonstrated defectiveness of Byelorussian opposition
Commenting on the post-elections situation in Byelorussia to a REGNUM correspondent, member of the Russian Fatherland Party Political Council, Head of the party’s international department Mikhail Demurin said that events in Minsk demonstrated defectiveness of the Byelorussian opposition.
According to Demurin, main reason, why it did not become a real opposition is its shameless flirt with the West and ‘use’ of foreign financial help. Demurin said, that no clever Byelorussian could use the slogan EU awaits us!, as Milinkevich used, because it presumes separation from Russia.
Also, Demurin has questions about Milinkevich's morale, because despite his wordings that he would stay with the people in the square as long, as there is anybody there, when police began to disperse the crowd, Milinkevich was absent. It must finish career of any politician, said Demurin.
Demurin reminded also about activity of several EU-countries Ambassadors in Minsk, who joined the protesters, which at least can be qualified as interference in domestic affairs and which is another demonstration of the usual EU dual standards policy, concluded Demurin.
