Broadcasting of Byelorussian TV banned in Lithuania
Lithuanian State Commission on Radio and Television has prohibited to all cable TV operators to retranslate the Byelorussian State TV-Channel. The decision was adopted at a session of the commission on March 29, reports BNS.
We have made the decision taking into account the resolution adopted by the Seym last week and the law on public information, head of the commission administration Nerius Maliukavicius said. According to him, the Byelorussian TV has recently spread much disinformation, some of which was directed against Lithuania. Exactly, this thing, as he believes, contradicts to the two documents.
However, even after imposing the ban, receiving of the Byelorussian TV is not cut down completely. Residents of the south-eastern part of Lithuania, who have powerful television antennas, can receive the channel. Besides, the Byelorussian program was changed transmitted via a satellite, Maliukavicius said.
The resolution adopted by the Seym on March 23 runs that Lithuania does not recognize the results of the recent presidential elections in Belarus, when the current president Alexander Lukashenko was elected for a third term, and calls for new elections.
