Poll: USA recorded language split in Ukraine
Ordered by one of the US governmental institutions, Kiev International Sociological Institute conducted an opinion poll of 2,021 Ukrainians by the end of 2005, which results became known to REGNUM.
According to the research, despite the fact, 76.7% of the respondents consider themselves to be Ukrainians, and only 18.2% Russians, 44.2% of Ukrainian inhabitants prefer to speak Ukrainian at home, 42.4% Russian, 11.3% mixture of Ukrainian and Russian. In the whole, 45.3% confessed, they easier speak Russian, 44.0% Ukrainian.
5.5% of respondents are firmly sure, Ukraine is to join NATO, 9.4% agree partially, 10.5% hesitate, 15.1% are partially and 35% are categorically against it.
At the same time, 25.6% of the respondents consider the problem of emigration from Ukraine to be critical, and 43.0% to be serious.
52.3% of respondents regard as critical problem of corruption in Ukraine, 38.4% as serious one.
