BP-Georgia is going to diagnose cancer diseases along BTC

British Petroleum-Georgia and Georgian Cancer Prevention Center presented common Prevention and Early Diagnostics – Main Steps to Control Cancer Diseases project. Its main aim is contribute to decrease of cancer diseases through their prophylaxis and early diagnostics, as well as rise of doctors’ professionalism in diagnostics and treatment o cancer diseases.

The project is $78,000 worth, which will be granted by BP-Georgia Company in the framework of its global project of social investments into Georgia, totaling on the whole more than $100 million. As Director of Cancer-Prevention Center Rema Gvamichava informed during the presentation, the project will be realized in 6 areas, located along routs of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and South Caucasian gas pipeline (district centers Gardabani, Marneuli, Tetritskaro, Tsalka, Borjomi, and Akhaltsikhe).

Within the project, health prophylaxes of in aggregate 4,000 inhabitants of mentioned areas will be conducted. Complex brigade of 12 doctors of different specializations (cardiologist, physician, neuropathologist, dermatologist, etc.) will do it, provided with minivan and equipment, including one for echolocation. Also, training of about 400 doctors from region, publishing of 7 kinds of brochures, slogans, and journals are foreseen in the framework of the project, initiated together by wife of Georgian president Sandra Rulovs, and wife of Azerbaijan president Mekhriban Aliyeva. During the presentation Sandra Rulovs thanked BP-Georgia and Cancer-Prevention Center for such important project and expressed her hope, same projects would be realized in future in Azerbaijan and in Turkey. BP-Georgia CEO Rif Diggins mentioned during the presentation, the project does not belong to company’s main activity, but the company gives no less attention to social and health sphere, having already spent more then $4 million. The Cancer-Prevention Center was founded in 1999, by cancer specialists with rich clinical and enlightener experience.
