A second case of poultry being infected by H5N1 strain of bird flu has been registered in Volgograd Region, a REGNUM correspondent is told at the territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service).

As the region’s Chief Veterinary Nikolai Filippov says, the virus was detected by laboratory tests taken from poultry in a household in Kolobrodovo (Frolovsky District, Volgograd Region). By present moment, it has been reported about deaths of about 50 chickens in the household.

It is a second case of poultry being infected by the dangerous virus in Volgograd Region. As REGNUM earlier reported, late March, in the village of Vesyoly, about 100 chickens from households died of bird flu. Then, the authorities managed to localize dissemination of the virus. On March 31, vaccine against bird flu was immediately sent to Volgograd Region, as a result about 2,000,000 poultry were vaccinated.
