Russians celebrate Day of Russia
On June 12, the Russian Federation celebrates Day of Russia. The date became state holiday in 1994, when President Boris Yeltsin signed decree on anniversary celebration of Russia’s Independence Declaration, which was adopted in 1990.
As Vesti of the Russian state TV-Channel reports, the central event of the celebration of Russia’s Day will be awards ceremony by President Vladimir Putin. Traditionally, the ceremony will take place in Georgievsky hall of Kremlin.
Overall, there are seven prizes, 5 mln rubles each. The prizes are awarded for achievements in scientific, cultural, art spheres; since this year, extra award is given for achievements in humanitarian activities. Patriarch Alexiy II is announced to be first prize-winner in the newly introduced nomination.
