Protest action against burial of US nuclear waste in Russia took place in St. Petersburg
On July 11, St. Petersburg ecologists rallied against possible burial of US nuclear waste in Russia in park near the Admiralty; Member of the European Parliament Rebecca Harms is quoted by a REGNUM correspondent as saying at a news conference. According to her, the rally was lasting for no more than a minute; it was broken up by law-enforcement officers.
Also, she explained that the ecologists rallied in connection with a publication of Washington Post, which reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President George Bush would sign an agreement during the G8 summit, in accordance with which tens of thousands of US NPPs’ wastes would be buried in Russia.
