US Energy Deputy Secretary envisions Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline success
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met in Istanbul with US Deputy Secretary of Energy Clay Sell who headed the US delegation at the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline official completion ceremony in Ceyhan, Turkey.
Clay Sell gave Ilham Aliyev warm regards of US President George Bush and US Energy Secretary and remarked that although the BTC pipeline is of an immense importance for Azerbaijan, it also has a great significance both for the whole region and the US.
Having greeted Aliyev with Azerbaijan’s heightened role in energy supplies industry and with the completion of this global project, Sell assured Aliyev that the US are happy with the Azerbaijani success and are sure that the US-Azerbaijan cooperation will be further extended, particularly, in the opening of Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum natural gas pipeline.
Ilham Aliyev in his turn emphasized the great role of the USA in implementing the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan project and said that Azerbaijan highly appreciates it. Aliyev said that the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline will become a new milestone in developing the energy supplies system. He said he was sure that the new project would be also successfully realized and cooperation between the two countries in the energy sphere will further develop.
A number of other issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
