UN Security Council plans to deploy peacekeepers in Lebanese-Israeli conflict zone
The UN Security Council is going to take up a question of deploying international stabilization forces in the Lebanese-Israeli conflict zone. As a REGNUM correspondent reports, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is quoted as saying it at a briefing at the G8 summit in St. Petersburg on July 17. According to Annan, the issue can be considered as early as by the end of this week. He also noted that deploying peacekeepers in the conflict zone could help in ceasing exchange of rocket strikes between Lebanon and Israel.
