Ukrainian People’s Party leader: Regionalists will rule till 2011
Leader of the Ukrainian People’s Party Yuri Kostenko predicts that the Regions Party will be in power till 2011 in Ukraine. The politician has made the announcement to a REGNUM correspondent in Lvov.
Composition of the Cabinet of Ministers reflects interests of the Regions Party only. All key guidelines of the national policy are focused in their hands: the prime minister, first deputy prime minister – finance minister and the whole economic block. However, the Regions Party has no ideology, hence, they have no economic strategy. As in the world there is rightist economic policy and (aimed at development of interests of national manufacturers, small and medium business) and leftist policy (socially oriented market economy, which envisages increase of taxes in the interests of social programs). The Regions Party has neither the former nor the latter. They have a clear-cut corporate interest. There will be a serious energy problem. An attempt to maintain cheap energy carriers for the Ukrainian economy by any means will bring about an economic collapse. As with growing prices at energy carriers the economic policy should be aimed at supporting and developing small and medium business, agriculture production, processing industry, innovation technique. And the Regions Party does not comprehend all this. So, there will be no effective economic policy, I do not even touch upon other aspects, Kostenko stressed.
According to him, the Regions Party will direct its effort at having a stable majority in the Ukrainian Supreme Rada, particularly on the account of Our Ukraine and Bloc of Yulia Timoshenko.
