Is Ukraine ready to buy gas at $135 price?
With a safety margin we are oriented towards $135 price for 1,000 cubic meters of gas at the border with Ukraine, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister Nikolai Azarov has told Profil weekly commenting the question of possible gas price for 2007. At the same time, the minister said the calculation was based upon optimistic scenario, a REGNUM correspondent reports.
In case the price is higher, Nikolai Azarov says, the state budget envisages a stabilization fund worth 3 million hryvnias ($594 million). If the price is below $135 for 1,000 cubic meters, the money from the stabilization fund will be sent to various investment projects, the first deputy prime minister concludes.
It is worth reminding, on January 4, Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukraine agreed that from January 1, 2006, Gazprom would sell gas to RosUkrEnergo at a price of $230 for 1,000 cubic meters. Gazprom and RosUkrEnergo signed a contract on it for five years. In its turn, Naftogaz Ukraine buys gas from RosUkrEnergo at $95 price for 1,000 cubic meters.
