Estonian foreign ministry requests Russia to take measures to liquidate queues at the border
On August 30, the Estonian foreign ministry sent a note to the Russian foreign ministry, requesting to take measures aimed at liquidating car queues at border between the two countries, a REGNUM correspondent was informed at the Estonian ministry.
At present, one should wait for up to two days to cross the border at Narva-Ivangorod checkpoint, in direction towards Russia. According to Estonian authorities and Estonian transport companies, the fact is connected with toughening of customs inspection of cars coming from the Estonian territory, as well as with slow registration of goods by Russian custom officials.
It is worth reminding, in July 2006, North-Western Custom Directorate Chief Igor Vlasenko stated at a press conference that strengthening of measures on car customs inspection at the Russian-Estonian border was connected with information on passing of smuggled goods through the border section, received by custom officials.
