Tajikistan observers not to monitor Transdnestr referendum
Observers from Tajikistan will not be present at the Transdnestr referendum, Tajikistan Central Election and Referendum Commission member, Tajikistan Islamic Revival Party Deputy Head Jalolidin Mahmudov stated, speaking to a REGNUM correspondent. According to him, Tajikistan CEC has not received invitation for observers to be present at forthcoming republican referendum.
At the same time, Mahmudov stressed that tendency of big countries’ splitting up into smaller ones is evident in the contemporary world. The tendency is favorable for major powers and countries, which are led by colonial thinking. It is very convenient to govern countries, which are initially divided in parts. Unfortunately, many ones have been receiving idea on necessity to gain independence as form of all problems’ settlement for last century. At that, negative factors of such independence have not been taken into account. The analyst believes, after the Soviet Union broke down, Republic of Moldova appeared in interest field of bipolar world. Strengthened propaganda led to fact that part of country’s population turned out to be oriented toward the West; another one – toward the East, the analyst stated. As politician, I can say that it will be better for both Moldova’s people and Transdnestr to live in united country. If the republics disunite, they will decrease in both political and economic space, becoming more dependent on super powers.
As REGNUM informed earlier, On Sep 17, 2006, referendum will be conducted in Transdnestr, to which two questions will be submitted:
1. Do you support a policy for independence of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic and further free Transdnestr joining the Russian Federation?
2. Do you think it is possible to abandon independence of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic with further Transdnestr joining the Republic of Moldova?
