Russian MP: I believe Russia will one-sidedly recognize Transdnestr independence
Russian State Duma Deputy Viktor Alksnis is quoted by REGNUM correspondent as stating on Sep 17 during a press conference at the International Press Center in Tiraspol: The referendum is vitally important for Transdnestr; people were expecting it for more than 16 years. I believe Transdnestr residents have gained their fate through suffering, and now this fate will be based on their free will. I think that the referendum voter turnout is already a sufficient legal substantiation of recognizing Transdnestr independence.
After our delegation returns to Moscow, the State Duma will issue an address to Russian President Vladimir Putin requesting him that Russia one-sidedly recognizes Transdnestr independence. Moreover, I am inclined to think that such a decision will be taken. It will be necessary to change Russia’s legislation. It will be already lawyers’ business, which may take them, probably, several weeks. Consequently, Putin will have some serious trump cards in his deck, which will be used during the talks with the EU concerning the necessity to retract from the double-standards policy. I believe that Russia will one-sidedly recognize Transdnestr independence.
