Russian MP Andrei Kokoshin: Outcomes of Transdnestr referendum should be taken into account by international community
The mere fact of holding Transdnestr referendum is a consequence of policy carried out by Moldavia and supported by several western countries for several years, Head of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots Andrei Kokoshin is quoted by REGNUM correspondent to state on Sep 18, commenting to the press on the 17 Sep referendum on the status of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic.
Kokoshin pointed out that the referendum outcomes undoubtedly should be taken into account by the international community. Those who believe that the Kosovo issue will not impact situation in different parts of the world, are mistaken, the MP stressed. He believes that the Kosovo issue, which has recently been included in UN General Assembly agenda, has a serious impact on the public opinion in Transdnestr. At the same time, Kokoshin observed, many western politicians prefer to call the Kosovo precedent a separate special issue which should not be extrapolated to other similar situations.
