Read it in Russian

On Sep 18, the European Union released a statement, in which it is said that the referendum, which was conducted on Sep 17 in Transdnestr, conflicts with Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. At that, the EU calls on other international organization to follow its example, Ekho Moskvy Radio informs.

The EU called on mediators and observers of “5+2” talks to issue public statements concerning the referendum. It is stressed in the statement that the EU recognizes Moldova’s territorial integrity and calls on the both conflicting sides to return to talks in format “5+2” in order to contribute to the soonest conflict’s settlement.

As REGNUM informed earlier, 97% of Transdnestr residents voted for their republic’s independence and its further free joining Russia. Only 2.3% of voters voted against integration into Russia. Overall, 78.6% of citizens participated in the referendum.
