USA does not recognize referendum on Transdnestr status
The US State Department released a statement saying that the USA does not recognize the referendum on Transdnestr status and calls to resume talks on the region’s status.
The international community has clearly given to understand that Transdnestr is a part of Moldova; attempts of the local regime may not be assessed as nothing but a wish to destabilize the situation, it is said in the US State Department’s statement; newsinfo.ru informs. The US State Department called all parties to return to international talks on Transdnestr till mid-October.
At the same time, it is stressed at the US State Department that the USA remains a friend of Moldova and its people, including the people of Transdnestr.
As REGNUM informed earlier, 97% of Transdnestr residents voted for their republic’s independence and its further free joining Russia. Only 2.3% of citizens voted against it. Overall, 78.6% of citizens voted in the republic.
