“Political processes are developing, and what is not recognized today can be recognized in future,” Head of the Russian State Duma Committee on Relations with Compatriots Andrei Kokoshin comments to a REGNUM correspondent on the refusal of the US State Department to recognize the outcome of the referendum in Transdnestr.

“Someone may recognize it, others may not, but it (Transdnestr — REGNUM) is a part of political reality and it should be taken into account,” Kokoshin says.

As REGNUM reported earlier, the US State Department released a statement saying the USA does not recognize the referendum on Transdnestr status and call on the parties to return to talks on determining the status of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic by mid-October.

78.6% of Transdnestr citizens participated in the referendum. 97% voted for maintaining the current policy towards independence and further possible joining to Russia.
