NATO and Georgia switch to intensive dialogue
As a result of NATO ministerial conference in New York, the issue of Georgia’s switching to an intensive dialogue with NATO was approved, Rustavi-2 TV-Channel informs. Commenting on the decision on the channel air, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili stated that Georgia’s switch to a stage of intensive dialogue with NATO is a serious breakthrough to the better.
The switch to an intensive dialogue means the irreversibility of joining NATO. I promised to my people that we would move towards NATO. Now, I am at the mid-term of my presidency, and we have arrived at the stage of the process when it becomes irreversible, when all European NATO member states and the USA, which have been supporting us for a long time, said that the process is irreversible, that Georgia will irreversibly join NATO. Extended diplomatic consultations foreran the event. This is because we should be part of the important security system; to be worthy partners of the Euro-Atlantic space; to ensure our security, regional peace, and our development. And in doing this, we will cooperate with everybody. As never before, Georgia now needs unity, stability, order, ability not to yield to provocations, and then we will achieve all our goals. Our goal is clear: it is providing firm security guarantees for our development and our European future. And I believe that NATO is absolutely decisive in achieving that and the Georgian people realizes it very well, the Georgian president stated.
