Tiraspol city council member: It is enough that Transdnestr will be recognized by Russia
Tiraspol city council deputy, Transdnestr LDPR Political Party Chairman Roman Khudyakov commented on outcome of the September 17 referendum on Transdnestr status in an interview to a REGNUM correspondent.
On September 17, after I voted for independence and further TMR joining Russia, I was present at polling stations as member of observers’ commission, which comprised Ukrainian and Moldavian representatives. We mainly worked in the territories of cities of Bendery and Tiraspol. No violations were recorded at any polling stations, visited by us.
We know it very well, who was assisting to Transdnestr for 16 years and who has turned one’s back upon us. Russia was proving for all those years not verbally but really that it was not indifferent towards Transdnestr people. I am very happy that Transdnestr citizens have given their votes for independence and union with Russia. I want to stress that it is people’s opinion; it may not be discussed as it is being done by western bureaucrats.
Moldavia, the OSCE, and NATO will not recognize Transdnestr independence, as they did it before. But we should be indifferent towards it because it is enough that Transdnestr will be one-sidedly recognized by Russia. I hope it will happen in the near future, maybe, within a month or two ones, Mr. Khudyakov concluded.
It is worth reminding, the referendum was conducted in Transdnestr on September 17. Two questions were submitted for it:
1. Do you support a policy for independence of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic and further free Transdnestr joining the Russian Federation?
2. Do you think it is possible to abandon independence of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic with further Transdnestr joining the Republic of Moldova?
97.1% of Transdnestr residents voted for their republic’s independence and its further free joining Russia. Only 2.3% of citizens voted against it. 94.6% of residents voted against possible abandoning Transdnestr Moldavian Republic’s independence and its further joining the Republic of Moldova; 3.4% voted for it. 2% of Transdnestr residents found it difficult to answer the question. Overall, 78.6% of citizens voted in the republic.
