Murder of Adygea regional leader is serial – Amin Zekhov

Murder of the head of Krasnogvardeysk region of Adygea Murat Kudayev remains the main discussion theme in the republic, REGNUM correspondent reports. According to head of Adyghe Khase Adygea council on relations with non-governmental associations of the Caucasus region Amin Zekhov, “Kudayev was a leader of a new type.”

“He was highly respectable, hard-working, and honest. Murat was most reputable and esteemed among the regional leaders. He topped the list of people who could succeed Hazret Sovmen at his presidential office, and Sovmen continually spoke about it.”

“Murat Kudayev strongly adhered to the position of preserving independent status of the republic – it is exactly in the territory of his region that most popular meetings supporting the status of Adygea were held. His murder is a provocation against the republican community.”

“I personally link it to processes going on in other Adyghe republics. Riot in Nalchik, the uninvestigated murder of Circassian and Abazin leader Stanislav Derev in Cherkessk, and the murder of Murat Kudayev in Adygea are links in a series. And if Adygea’s law-enforcement agencies do not investigate the murder in no time – the society will conclude that it is a political contract murder.”

As REGNUM reported earlier, head of Krasnogvardeysk region of Adygea Murat Kudayev was shot by unidentified persons in his official car late on Sep 25. There are so far no suspects in the criminal case.
