Transdnestr Proryv Party nominate Igor Smirnov for president
On September 27, joint conference of Proryv (Breakthrough) People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Proryv International Youth Corporation (IYC)aimed at supporting Igor Smirnov as presidential candidate at the forthcoming elections of December 10, 2006, was held at the Ernesto Che Guevara higher school of political leadership in Tiraspol, REGNUM correspondent was informed at the Proryv PDP and IYC press offices.
Opening the conference, Proryv PDP Chairman Alexander Gorelovsky said that the decision to support the candidacy of the acting Transdnestr Moldavian Republic (TMR) President Igor Smirnov was made at a joint session of PDP and IYC leaderships. It has been already for 16 years that Transdnestr defends its right to recognition and independence. For the time of her existence, the Transdnestr Republic has survived Moldavian military aggression of 1992, endless informational, political, and economic blockades, initiated and implemented by the Chisinau government, constant provocations in the security zone. Despite all that, Transdnestr has always coped with difficulties.
It is largely thanks to the preservation of the strong presidential authority that we have managed to resist aggression and provocations of Moldavia and her western allies. Transdnestr has always timely reacted to inadequate steps taken by official Chisinau. From our point of view, at present, there is no alternative to both presidential republic as a form of state government and Igor Smirnov as presidential candidate. We know him as a person respected both within the republic and abroad. I personally know him since 1990. My opinion of him has not changed for all the 16 years. Igor Nikolayevich has gained invaluable experience of struggle in this direction, an authority of strong-willed and charismatic leader. It is exactly Smirnov who should finish the undertaking started by him16 years ago – international recognition of the Transdnestr republic. Smirnov is a guarantor of stability in Transdnestr, Gorelovsky maintained.
Proryv IYC Alena Arshinova stressed: What Igor Nikolayevich has done for the young people, is of immense service to the nation. Thanks to his efforts, we have the Transdnestr state university, which conforms to the modern Russian educational standards. Our president who worked a considerable part of his life in industry has gained a huge life experience. We trust him and hope that young Transdnestr residents will vote for Igor Smirnov on December 10.
Proryv IYC Directorate member Natalya Mardar said: We trust our president, we give our votes to him and confirm one of the key slogans of the corporation: ‘TMR-Smirnov-Proryv!’
Igor Smirnov has been elected Transdnestr president three times.
