Peacekeepers’ representative attacked in Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone
On September 28, at 07:45 p.m. local time, serviceman of North Ossetian peacekeeping battalion Gamlet Kudiyev was attacked near Avnevi village (Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone – REGNUM) inhabited by ethnic Georgians.
As REGNUM was informed at JPF united stuff office, Kudiyev driving an automobile with peacekeepers’ license plates, in which two other men and a woman with a child – members of his family – were also riding. The car was stopped by four masked men, who first shot in the air and then at the wheels of Kudiyev’s car. Then the masked quartet dragged the peacekeepers’ representative and his companions out of the car and started to beat them with buttstocks on their heads. Having done that, the criminals escaped. According to the victims’ testimony, the attackers were ethnic Georgians.
As REGNUM was informed at the united stuff office of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone, the incident is assessed as destabilizes the already complicated situation in the region.
