US torpedo UN Security Council’s resolution on Georgia
UN Security Council has delayed adoption of a resolution on Georgia due to the position of US representatives, Permanent Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States Vitaly Churkin said late Sep 29 after a closed-doors consultations round.
According to Churkin, the US delegation announced that is was not ready to give consent to adopting the resolution, since it had not received a Washington’s OK. The ambassador described this stand as strange as US representatives suggested no new amendments to the resolution draft on Sep 29.
This contrasted to what Churkin described as a constructive work of Great Britain, Ekho Moskvy radio reports.
