On the threshold of the presidential election and referendum in South Ossetia to be held on November 12, law enforcement agencies have increased their effort in securing stability and order. As REGNUM is told by South Ossetian Interior Minister Mikhail Mindzayev, night and day patrolling of streets increased in the capital as well as in the republic’s distant areas.

Reminding that “Georgian security services’ leadership is told to destabilize at maximum the situation on the threshold of the referendum and the presidential election,” the minister noted that compact places of joint living of Georgians and Ossetians are taken under control. “Actions to destabilize the situation are expected to be aimed at provoking armed clashes between local residents of Georgian and Ossetian origin,” Mikhail Mindzayev said. The minister also stressed that the Georgian party did not abandon its practice of staging terror attacks and added that security measures were being taken in this direction too.

Lately, Georgia has intensified its activity on misinforming international community concerning South Ossetia, which is “aimed at establishing the image of a criminal state,” the minister says. According to him, “it is especially important to point out the anti-Russian campaign from Georgia.”
