Russian reporters commemorate Anna Politkovskaya
On October 8, reporters in Russian provinces held actions to commemorate Novaya Gazeta reporter Anna Politkovskaya killed in Moscow on Saturday. Apart from mass rallies carried out in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the reporter and human rights activist was also commemorated in Arkhangelsk and Samara. Besides, on October 8 Ekho Moskvy informed that at a meeting of representatives of leading Russian media it was proposed to institute a prize named after Anna Politkovskaya. Her colleagues offered to hold a commemoration action on the ninth day after her assassination: drivers are called to put on their cars crape bands and to those who will be at home to switch off electricity and put out a candle.
