“We had a referendum in South Ossetia 14 years ago, in 1992, and now the international community should know results of a referendum and people’s opinion on this point,” South Ossetia’s Defense Minister Anatoly Barankevich said commenting on the referendum on South Ossetia’s independence planned for November 12.

As a REGNUM correspondent reports, the defense minister said that holding the referendum “is important from psychological and political points of view.” “The policy towards independence, integration with Russia, unification with North Ossetia will bring good to our people. I am sure, overwhelming majority of our people will vote for seeing the republic independent in the future,” Alexander Barankevich said adding: “The whole world will once again see and make sure that the South Ossetian people will vote for their independence.”
